The Sunday Book Report: Edition #4
Hello lovely reader friends! Happy Sunday! I cannot tell you how much I love the weekends. I spend so much time filling my well with creative pursuits!
Today in Detroit it is cloudy and 77. I was hoping for sun, as I am in love with reading out on my balcony! I try to get out there for at least 30 minutes every day.
Today I am linking up with :

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? |
***************************************************************************
WHAT AM I READING THIS WEEK:
I am reading so many things and finished none of them! I've decided to put a couple of them on hold until I finish something! I am absolutely crazy like that and end up taking on too many things in every area of my life.
* A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty White (about 35% complete) How have I not read this before? Oh my goodness! So good! I'll do a complete review (hopefully) next Sunday!
* The Iliad by Homer (20% complete) I'm reading this book for Hardcore Literature. There are parts of it I am truly enjoying - as Greek Mythology has always been an interest of mine. However, the war scenes are not my favorite. REALLY hoping to finish over the next 30 days!
*Let Them by Mel Robbins (20% complete) I love her. I've already highlighted the heck out of this book. It's a process for helping with stress and anxiety (which I am full of!)
*Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer (35% complete)
*Meditations by Marcus Aurelias (50% complete)
*Poems of Emily Dickinson (just starting)
*Daily Stoic (one-page-per-day book)
*A Calendar of Wisdom by Tolstly (One-page-per-day book)
*Bible - in the book of Isaiah (50% through Bible)
I've decided that I need to put a couple aside for just a week or two until I finish at least a few books! I'm going to hold off on Poems of Emily Dickinson and Meditations - they both require study and I need that time for other things at the moment!
WHAT BOOKS DID I BUY/BORROW THIS WEEK:
I purchased the hardcover of Mel Robbin's "Let Them" (#1 it was cheaper than buying on Kindle and #2 because I knew I'd mark it up!) I also purchased The Illustrated Elements of Style by Strunk & White. I saw it in a Robin Waldun video and could not help myself!
For Kindle I borrowed "Self Reliance and Other Essays" by Ralph Waldo Emerson (which IDK when I think I'll be reading any of that) And I purchased "Culinary Confessions" written by a woman in my writing group who is so sweet and kind, Joanne Lambo.
WHAT IS THE BOOK I MOST WANT TO READ RIGHT NOW:
I am on a classics kick right now. I have Austen in my mind - and that may be because it would be Jane's 250th birthday!!! I may do Austen in August and read two of her works and skip Hardcore Lit's "The Odyssey" (no offense, Homer)
WHAT ARE MY READING PLANS FOR THE UPCOMING WEEK:
Plans.... I want to finish Let Them and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. And NOT add anything else 😆
WHAT DID I DNF THIS WEEK:
* I didn't DNF anything - putting 2 aside this week, but I will finish them!
WHAT DID I WORK ON THIS WEEK?
WHAT DID I WORK ON THIS WEEK?
This week I added about 5,000 words to the 2nd book in my Detroit series, "Disappearance in Detroit". The first book, "Death in Detroit" will be out in the fall of this year!
WHAT IS FEEDING MY CREATIVITY?
Right now reading is helping me creatively, especially when I can read outside. Also, walks in nature, and journaling.

You are reading/have read a lot of great books lately. I have been meaning to read Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. I've been learning a lot about Stoicism lately. It was my son who suggested Let Them, and I'm so glad he did. And---A Tree Grows in Brooklyn---such a good read.
ReplyDeleteI read several books at a time as well, normally a nonfiction, a fiction, and an audiobook, in addition to my Bible and devotional books...but I can't read that many fiction books at one time, I wouldn't know what to focus on, LOL!
