FAVORITE BLOG POST:::

The weather outside:::  It is cloudy, humid and in the mid-90s.  Storms on the way.  We really need it, the grass is getting all crunchy!

I am thinking.. About how much there is to get done around the house.

I am thankful... That I have Henry in my life.  He brings me such happiness.

One of my favorite things... Flowers.  Looking at them gives me peace and joy.

I am wearing... A print tank top and black capri pants.

I am creating... Still working on my book. It's Christian fiction, for those of you that asked.  I'm still sorting out a lot of the details.  I'll share more when I quit changing my mind about every single thing!  :)

I am watching... Binge-watching the first two seasons of "Outlander".

I am reading... an ARC of the book "Delilah" - I'll have a book review up in a couple of days.  Also reading the new Shanna Hatfield book, "Millie" (7th in the Pendleton series, which I adore) and re-reading my favorite book of all time, "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell for the Paper & Glam Bookclub on Goodreads.  I even picked up the 1964 version that my Mom had when I was growing up!

I am listening to... not too much.  Christian music radio stations mostly.

I am hoping... to have a great time during my stay-cation next week

In the schoolroom... hopeful I will have the money come through to order Em's curriculum for 11th grade by this weekend!

In the garden... My herbs are growing nicely.  I've had to pull up quite a few flowers that died in all this dryness despite daily waterings.  The tiger lilies are up and bring me a happiness to my heart I cannot even describe!

Summer Reading List 2016

Believe it or not, I have NEVER, EVER made a summer book reading list!  I may have had certain classic novels that I've wanted to read or books that look good so I add them to my Goodreads or Amazon "want" list - but I have really never said to myself "I am going to read THESE five books this summer".  So this year I have decided that I am going to give it a go!!!!!

1.  Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
This one is sort of a cheat .... for a few reasons.  First of all, I have read and re-read this book many times.  Second of all, it is for the Paper and Glam book club on Goodreads!  GWTW is my favorite book of all time, so I am really excited to read it again this summer!

2. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
I scored this book as a daily deal for 1.99 on Kindle!  (9.99 now, sorry)

FRANCE, 1939
In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn't believe that the Nazis will invade France...but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks and tanks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne's home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Without food or money or hope, as danger escalates all around them, she is forced to make one impossible choice after another to keep her family alive.

The last remaining descendant of the Brontë family embarks on a modern-day literary scavenger hunt, using only the clues her eccentric father left behind, and the Brontës’ own novels.

This is another book club read, but I read "Heart Shaped Box" by Joe Hill several months ago and really enjoyed it.
A chilling novel about a worldwide pandemic of spontaneous combustion that threatens to reduce civilization to ashes and a band of improbable heroes who battle to save it, led by one powerful and enigmatic man known as the Fireman.
The fireman is coming. Stay cool.

5.  I definitely have to have ONE YA title on the list, yes?
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

Summer Bucket List

My kids are all teenagers now.  My son is starting school for welding in the fall.  He is spending his last summer as a "free man" playing video games and working part time for my dad.  My oldest will be turning 20 this week and she works part time until she is going back to college.  My youngest is 16 and will be starting 11th grade homeschool in late July, early August.  SO -

WHAT ARE SOME FREE AND/OR INEXPENSIVE THINGS TO DO IN THE DETROIT AREA WITH TEENAGERS????

Here are some things we have decided on doing together this summer!  I hope to do most of them.

Go to the beach!  My oldest and I (plus her good friend) plan to do this in the next week or two!

Go to the local drive in!  We usually go every year for Jennah's birthday - so this will be happening soon too!

African Bead Museum in Detroit  - this museum has a sculpture garden, hand-crafted beads from across Africa and African culture collection.

I have wanted to go to the John K. King Used & Rare Book Store for years!

I will definitely be going back to Eastern Market!  <3

And I really want to bring my girls to the conservatory on Belle Isle.  We'll make a day of it with a trip to the park and some ice cream too.

How Do We Become Strong Women of God?

This has been such a stressful week at work.  I've been coming home, having dinner and going to bed at 7 p.m.  I see this cycle in my life - never finding balance.  It seems like my complaints and issues from five years ago are the exact same complaints I have now.

I so want to be a strong woman of God!  I want to do what He has called me to do.  I want to live the way the Holy Spirit directs me, and not where my worldly, humanly flesh does.  Yet I keep doing exactly what I do not want to do!

Even Paul felt this way.  He held such favor with the Lord yet he had feelings of self-annoyance just like I do.  Guilt over the choices made.  Yearning to do what is right.

Does anyone else feel this way?  I am a working mom of three teenagers.  Daily I feel like I am failing and I want to be better.  Do better.  I am laying myself bare because I need to be held accountable.

I am going to work on this over the weekend.  I am going to pray and start my journey to becoming a Strong Woman of God.  I'm not sure if I am supposed to focus on one area of my life at a time or if I am supposed to take baby steps in all areas.  But I am going to listen to Him.
