Summer Reading List 2016

Image
Believe it or not, I have NEVER, EVER made a summer book reading list!  I may have had certain classic novels that I've wanted to read or books that look good so I add them to my Goodreads or Amazon "want" list - but I have really never said to myself "I am going to read THESE five books this summer".  So this year I have decided that I am going to give it a go!!!!!  1.   Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell   This one is sort of a cheat .... for a few reasons.  First of all, I have read and re-read this book many times.  Second of all, it is for the Paper and Glam book club on Goodreads !  GWTW is my favorite book of all time, so I am really excited to read it again this summer!  2. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah  I scored this book as a daily deal for 1.99 on Kindle!  (9.99 now, sorry)   FRANCE, 1939 In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads...

Summer Bucket List

Image
My kids are all teenagers now.  My son is starting school for welding in the fall.  He is spending his last summer as a "free man" playing video games and working part time for my dad.  My oldest will be turning 20 this week and she works part time until she is going back to college.  My youngest is 16 and will be starting 11th grade homeschool in late July, early August.  SO -   WHAT ARE SOME FREE AND/OR INEXPENSIVE THINGS TO DO IN THE DETROIT AREA WITH TEENAGERS???? Here are some things we have decided on doing together this summer!  I hope to do most of them.  Go to the beach!  My oldest and I (plus her good friend) plan to do this in the next week or two!  Go to the local drive in!  We usually go every year for Jennah's birthday - so this will be happening soon too!  African Bead Museum in Detroit   - this museum has a sculpture garden, hand-crafted beads from across Africa and A...

How Do We Become Strong Women of God?

Image
This has been such a stressful week at work.  I've been coming home, having dinner and going to bed at 7 p.m.  I see this cycle in my life - never finding balance.  It seems like my complaints and issues from five years ago are the exact same complaints I have now. I so want to be a strong woman of God!  I want to do what He has called me to do.  I want to live the way the Holy Spirit directs me, and not where my worldly, humanly flesh does.  Yet I keep doing exactly what I do not want to do! Even Paul felt this way.  He held such favor with the Lord yet he had feelings of self-annoyance just like I do.  Guilt over the choices made.  Yearning to do what is right.   Does anyone else feel this way?  I am a working mom of three teenagers.  Daily I feel like I am failing and I want to be better.  Do better.  I am laying myself bare because I need to be held accountable.   I am going to work on ...
