The Monday Book Report, Edition #3
I am linking up with
WHAT DID I READ THIS WEEK: It was a pretty slow reading week actually. I only finished two books. I made it 1/2-way through a third book, but we'll talk about that one next week.
and Porch Lights, by Dorothea Benton Frank 4.5 ****-1/2
I was so pleasantly surprised by "Porch Lights". The characters are FABULOUS. I wanted to be just like the mom character only 5% into the book! This story is about relationships. How family is important not just in hard times, but ALL the time. The setting is stunning too. The South Carolina Lowcountry. I want a whole series of books revolving around these characters!
FAVORITE QUOTE FROM A BOOK I READ: Two this week. Both from "Porch Lights"
"you should always read the book before you see the film.” “Why?” “Why? Oh, my dear . . . because a book lets your imagination soar and a movie makes all the decisions for you. A book is almost always, but not always, a far richer experience than a book turned into a movie."
And this next one FLOORED me and brought me to tears:
"Love your momma, honey, and try to treasure every minute you spend with her. Forgive her everything she does. She’s not out to aggravate you. I’d give every last tooth I have left in my head to have my momma back for just ten minutes. I’m not lying either. She was the best friend I ever had, and well, I didn’t know it until she was gone."

What did you think of The Little Prince? You must share your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI'll be posting a review later this week :) I guess I should have mentioned that! lol
DeleteNice variety of books. The Little Prince was a favorite of mine when I was in high school. I read Year One and will be reading the sequel though it wasn't my favorite book by Roberts. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteYear One isn't my favorite Nora Roberts book either - but it's different and I'm enjoying it enough to read the sequel too!
DeletePorch Light sounds good. My weekly updates
ReplyDeleteIt really was. I highly recommend it!
DeleteOh my! Those lines about a momma! Hope you have a great reading week and thanks for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteColletta
I lost my mom 1-1/2 years ago to cancer. When I read those words I started to cry immediately :( It will always make me remember this book!
DeleteI loved Porch Lights! And that quote about moms..beautiful. I really want to read The Impossible Girl!
ReplyDeleteI read your other posts on my way down here. Lol. Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl are two of my favorite shows ever! I will have to try Heartland. I am looking for something to watch and binge on. :)
We Were Mothers sounds really good, I'll have to add it to the TBR!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading it too! Never enough time to read!
DeleteI've heard great things about My Absolute Darling. I hope you love it.
ReplyDeleteThe writing started out really amazing and I was loving the characters. However, (not ruining anything as I could have found this out by reading into the book more) as soon as the sexual abuse started I had to put the book down. I just couldn't :(
DeleteI have a copy of The Little Prince from when I was a child. I can't say I remember it though! Perhaps I will have to do a re-read one day.
ReplyDeleteThe quotes are good. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Reading!
I still have to get a review up of The Little Prince! I've been slacking :)
DeleteI really liked the Jane Austen handbook and I cannot wait to read the new Sarah McCoy
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for it either! So excited!
DeletePorch Lights sounds very good and so does The Jane Austen Handbook. Happy reading!
