Friday's Fave Five

Hello and welcome to my first Friday's Fave Five, hosted by Susanne @ Living to Tell the Story.

Happy Friday and happy December!

My week was pretty simple, and that in and of itself is one of my favorite things!

Family Time: Every week my fiance, my daughters and I go over to my father's house and have dinner and Uno night with him, my two sisters and my nephew. This week we had tacos and lots of laughter.  My youngest (22) put up their Christmas tree and we filled the house with many of my mother's favorite things. Christmas always brings back so many cherished memories of her.

Prayer Journal:  I made an impulse decision to purchase the Coffee & Bible Time Prayer Journal - and I am glad that I did!  My prayer life has been lacking lately and this has kept me more focused and also given me somewhere tangible to keep things I am grateful for and to share praise along with prayer requests.

Birds:  I have a birdhouse outside of the window of my office and it is shaped like a little yellow house.  I love watching the birds eating their food during the day.  It brings me immense joy!

Christmas Movies:  I only watched one this week, but just looking over the list of those that are coming out and thinking about watching my all-time favorite has really made me happy this week! I watched "Holiday in the Wild" on Netflix.  It has Rob Lowe and Kristin Davis.  I've watched it every year since it came out in 2019.  My very favorite can only be found on YouTube!!!  It is Smoky Mountain Christmas starring Dolly Parton.  If you can stand the bad recording (trust me, it's worth it!) I know you'll love this movie too!

Christmas decorations:  I love the lights on the Christmas tree so much.  Every year I want to keep them up because they just bring my heart so much peace and joy!  We also have our fireplace decorated and the crocheted blanket and tapestry pillows.  Signs are up and little tchotzkies here and there.

Thank you so much for joining me for my faves this Friday!  Have a wonderfully blessed weekend!

  1. Hi Sherry, thanks for visiting my site. I love your Christmas decor! I have lost both my parents, so I hold special memories close to my heart. Good that you got a prayer journal. I teach Bible journaling and the women love it. Most have journaling Bibles. Etsy has a lot of Christian graphics to. I like Beautiful Good News. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Thank you! I still have my dad but we came very close to losing him last year. He was hospitalized with COVID, then a few weeks after recovering he had pneumonia and then after that he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I have Bible journaled for a few years now and I love it too. I use a lot of cut outs, washi, stickers, etc since I am not as creative as I would like to be! I will check out Beautiful Good News. Thank you!

  2. HI Sherry, welcome to FFF! I really enjoyed your post today. Your tree is just beautiful. I have a hard time taking mine down, too. In fact, I have a little one in the dining room, and after Christmas I take the decorations off and just leave the lights on. It stays up through the winter. Your weekly dinners with your dad sound so nice. My husband and I have pizza night with my dad and stepmom once a week, and I love it. It's our time just the four of us, and we all look forward to it. Have a good weekend!

    1. Thank you! I might need to put up some lights somewhere year-round just for the ambiance! It is very nice to have a family night. When my kids were younger, and my mom was still alive we would go over for dinner twice a week. We will go over twice a week but now I cook a big meal on Sundays so my dad has some home-cooked food and then on Tuesdays for game night!

  3. Hi Sherry! Welcome to the FFF family! Thanks for visitng my blog. It's nice to meet you! Love your blessings......pretty tree! Glad you get together with your dad and sisters/families. There's nothing like it! I LOVE Christmas movies but not the sappy hallmark/netflix ones. We collect the classics and probably have almost all of them by now (White Christmas, Holiday Inn, Christmas in Connecticut; It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street (you get the idea!).
    ENJOY the weekend!!

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, I have been in love with "Smoky Mountain Christmas" for YEARS. I found it one time on YouTube and watched it every Christmas Eve as I wrapped presents for the kids! Now they are adults, but I still have to watch every year. Doesn't feel like Christmas without it!

  5. I love simple weeks, too. I love the lights at Christmas, and they are one of the things I miss most when we take them down after Christmas. It's lovely you get together with your dad and family each week.

I was just telling someone else I needed to fill the bird feeders. I gradually stopped over the summer because they go through it so fast, and they have plenty of food sources then. But I like to help them out in the winter, and I enjoy watching them. I have a bird feeder outside the window next to my desk.

    1. I've been thinking of finding some type of lights I can keep up year-round. They are so calming and peaceful! Maybe in my office. My daughter and I have been feeding the birds since she was about 5 and she's now 22. We usually make some sort of homemade treat for them on Christmas. Mine is outside my desk too. It is a nice respite when working!

  6. Welcome to Fave Fives! You will love the encouragement FFF offers.
Love your Christmas tree! (Please come decorate mine).
White Christmas may be my favorite classic movie for the season. And Elf makes me laugh.
We try to have family dinners as often as possible, too.
    Happy weekend!
